Life Inside & Out

We're having a relaxing morning around the apartment. Lima Bean has been awake for most of the last couple of hours, spending some time with Dad, and listening to jazz (she's more of a classical gal in the bedroom).

Outside, one of Central Park's hawks (falcons? Not entirely sure which, but it is a bird of prey) has been hanging out in our neighborhood this morning, doing circuits over the edge of the park. The local pigeon population is, to put it gently, not amused. Living in New York, one doesn't really think of pigeons are particularly aerobatic animals. Most of the time, you see them on the ground, running out of your way, flying to the nearest ledge, or perched dangerously in the tree you are about to walk under. Introduce a winged natural predator, however, and some fairly impressive instincts seem to kick in. Couldn't catch their tucked-wing dives past the balcony on the camera, but they were fast and agile in a way you might not expect when you see them working on some day old bread on the street corner.

Our morning visitor, on patrol.

Pigeons on alert, flying in formation.
