Oland

The Bean left Stockholm on Thursday for a side-trip to Oland.

It was the Bean's longest car trip ever, and she worked her way through the full range of emotions over the course of the trip. After a good long nap by the Bean early in the trip, Mom and Dad stopped for some lunch:

The Bean decided to wait, and had most of her lunch at the side of the road later:

The scenery along the drive was spectacular, with flowering fields of rapeseed to cheer up an overcast and frequently rainy day:

Oland claims to be "the island of sun and wind" but there wasn't much sun to go with the wind when the Bean arrived. Fortunately, Friday brought better weather, and the chance to go for a morning walk along the water. The Bean encountered some contended cows, who have a million dollar waterfront view from their pasture.

Later, the Bean went to the Swedish Royal Family's summer palace, Solliden, for lunch and a tour of the gardens.

Mom and Dad were particularly impressed by the play-house on the palace grounds:

And the croquet court:

The rest of the day followed a familiar routine, with some time in a cafe in the afternoon:

Dinner together:

And the satisfying walk home at the end of a good day.
