Stockholm

The Bean has had a spectacular couple of days in Stockholm. The weather has been brilliant, and there have been all sorts of new experiences to enjoy and new people to meet.

Mom, Dad and the Bean have been staying in an apartment in Alvik, a short subway ride out of the center of town. It's a very different experience than being in a hectic tourist hotel. The apartment is very Swedish--floor to ceiling Ikea fixtures and a Swedish-style bathroom which combines some of the most notable features of camp and prison restrooms. But it's a great neighborhood, well located, and a much more authentic experience than being in the tourist zone. Mom and the Bean, on the street near the apartment:

The Bean has utilized just about every imaginable form of transportation to get around town. On the subway with Dad:

On the boat to Fjaderholmarna with Mom, for lunch and a quick tour of one of the islands of Stockholm's archipelago:

Walking all over town:

And driving in her rental car to visit a spectacular castle for lunch (no pictures of the car yet, but yes, it is a Volvo).

One of Mom's favorite Stockholm pastimes has always been to sit in a cafe and watch the city go by.

The Bean seems to take after her mother, and has been soaking up the cafe culture:

The Bean has also had a chance to meet some of Mom's closest friends in Stockholm. At a cafe with Hanna, who has her own little bean arriving VERY soon:

At Hanna's parents' house, getting acquainted with Gunilla:

And joining in the fun and chaos with Hanna's brother Peter and his family:

The Bean even had the chance to meet her great-aunt Solbritt.

One of the key reasons the Bean has had such a great time in Stockholm is that she managed to overcome her jet lag on her second night in town. The morning after her first night, however, was a little rough...for everybody:

Ultimately, however, what will be most memorable for Mom and Dad about this trip is the chance to spend so much time with the Bean, quietly watching the world go by:
